Drug Sensitivity Testing in Ovarian Malignant Germ Cell Tumors: Correlation Between In Vitro Results and Clinical Response

Drug sensitivity testing was performed on tumor cells derived from two patients with ovarian malignant germ cell tumors: Case NO.009 (treatment-naïve) and Case NO.015 (relapsed case). The results demonstrated that:

Cisplatin exhibited significant anti-proliferative effects on tumor cells from both patients.

Carboplatin showed relatively weaker inhibitory activity.

Notably, the in vitro drug sensitivity results closely correlated with serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels:

In Case 009, the rapid decline in AFP aligned with the high drug sensitivity observed in the cell line (Figure 4).

Key Implications:

This study provides the first experimental evidence that drug sensitivity profiles of in vitro cultured rare tumor cells can effectively predict clinical treatment response. These findings establish a critical foundation for personalized precision therapy in ovarian malignant germ cell tumors.
